Suggestions: Graduation Outfit Dilemma

Bonjour a tous. Joyeux jeudi!

Final exams are over, I’m packing up to leave college, and graduation is only a week away…and I can’t think of a thing to wear.

For as long as I can remember, the traditional graduating woman’s attire was a mid-length dress with a pair of strappy heeled sandals. Unfortunately, the New-York-born fashionista in me hates trends and loves being different from the norm, so I’m thinking about ditching the traditional graduation dress for a chic tuxedo.

You read that right; a female tuxedo. Carry Bradshaw did it and so will I. Sadly, female tuxedos are extremely hard to find, and if you do find one, it will probably cost you an arm and a leg. However, I am open to suggestions from all of you. I would be a huge help!

Any suggestions for what I should wear on such an important day? I’d really appreciate the help. Email FTLF a ftlfblog@gmail.com OR just comment below! Merci beaucoup!

Montmartre: Home of the Creative

Cobblestone roads, enormous hills, and a hidden beauty in every nook and cranny; this historical city is, without a doubt, the heart of Parisian life.

Paris

Montmartre is more than just the home of the Sarcé-Coeur Cathedral or near the infamous Moulin Rouge. It’s a city where tourists roam in the daytime and artists flock the streets by sundown. In the 18th Arrondissement of Paris, one can’t help, but get hooked on the food, the scenery, the daily effortless fashion and of course, the artsy neighborhood.

The history speaks for itself. Pablo Picasso, Gen Paul, Vincent Van Gogh, Renoir and Toulouse-Lautrec and literature royalty, Ernest Hemingway have all either resided in or found their inspiration in Montmartre.

My Airbnb listing stated that my apartment was a studio, but not that it was an actual historical arts studio that catered to an array of French artists. Now, I admit that I am a young woman who knows more about what type of stitching Elie Saab uses in every garment each season than what it takes to capture La Seine on canvas. But I, like the lives of many of those I’ve met in this playful little town, lives for creativity. Painters, photographers, fashion designers, actors and actresses, sculptors; they have made and continue to make Montmartre what it is today.

If you look in the right places, such as near rue Durantin, you’ll find the coolest hipster bars and cafés with the best Parisian food. Every bar has its own pizazz and homemade arts decor that make the atmosphere feel extremely welcoming.

Constantly distracted by the northern Parisian atmosphere, I didn’t realize that I was getting a daily workout on this mountain of a town. But it was all worth it.

A Week in Paris

Bonjour à tous!

I know I’m a day late in posting this week and I apologize. As my undergraduate college career slowly leads to graduation, the days get more complicated and time-consuming. Though, I’m still jet-lagged, spending a week in the city that I’m working to live in was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made and I had a blast.

I came back to New York feeling refreshed and ready to take on the world.

My trip consisted of searching for possible future employment and apartment listings, but I got so much more than that. I usually get more than I bargain for (in a good way) every time I go to Paris. There’s so much to share about the French fashion and the sites that I’ve come across that one post cannot do it justice. Leading up to the summer, I can’t wait to share it all with you! Stay tuned!

Street Fashion in Brooklyn

Brooklyn! Manhattan is amazing, but when it comes to art, the best international food, and unusual scenery, I’ll take Brooklyn any day. Especially in D.U.M.B.O. where I worked with Brooklyn photographer, Dina Raketa to shoot some streetwear. I don’t know about you, but I’m tired of the cold weather. When will le printemps (the Spring) season get here?

It’s Mid-March, so I decided to bring a taste of the nice weather.

Graduating With Tiffany & Co.

Jewelry: Tiffany & Co.

Bonjour à tous!

About a year ago, I realized that it would only be a matter of time before I graduate college. I started to think about my graduation day outfit, shoes, and of course, my class ring. If you’re in a country that offers graduation rings during your last year of school, whether it be high school, college or beyond, you understand the “need” to hold on to those memories with a little memorabilia. But there are downsides to buying a class ring.

Class rings are great pieces of jewelry to remember your years of hard work, sweat and tears, but let’s be honest. The majority of us will rarely or never wear our class rings after we leave our educational institutions, mostly because of their bold and overwhelming appearance. Also, many class rings are completely valueless.

While debating on whether or not I should spend 400 t0 750 dollars on a ring, I remembered that the great world of Tiffany & Co. exists.

Let me just say right now that I love sterling silver, which is why I love Tiffany & Co. Not only do you get variety in price and style, but you are getting quality and value for your money.

Substituting a traditional class ring for a ‘Tiffany’s’ ring is a cheaper decision and a smarter decision. Take the cheapest ring at Tiffany’s for example. It costs $125. Tiffany and Co. offer modifications and engraving, giving you a chance to personalize your ring to your liking. Even after making these changes, the cost of the ring will still lie under $400. Also, the ring still has value to it. There’s a higher chance of being able to sell a Tiffany & Co.-brand ring than a traditional class ring.

Stay Chic & Warm!

Make-Up Details: Face (Stila ‘Perfecting Concealer’,  Make Up For Ever ‘Mat Velvet+’ foundation, Laura Mercier Translucent Powder, Kat Von D ‘Shade & Light’ contour kit, MAC Cosmetics’Mineralize Foundation Loose’). Eyes (Sephora brand liquid eyeliner, MAC Cosmetics ‘Technakohl’ pencil liner, Dior ‘Diorshow’ mascara). Lips (MAC Lip Glass ‘Ample Pink’, NYX ‘Abu Dhabi’ soft matte lip cream).

If you’re in a warm place right now, I envy you! Here in New York, it’s snowing and it’s freezing out. Usually, I use the cold weather as an excuse to wear yoga pants and Uggs from Monday to Friday, but believe it or not, it is possible to look “New York chic” in this 20 degree and below weather.

Do you know that Forever 21 has a “Premium” section online? Yeah, me either…UNTIL I received this gorgeous coat that I ordered last minute for a dinner in Tribeca (in the photo above). If you did know, then congratulations! You are officially reading the website of someone who practically lives under a rock (cue fireworks)!

So, I graduated high school about 150 years ago and I temporarily stopped shopping at stores like Forever 21 and discovered FashionNova.com, where I find jeans and other bottoms that compliment my body.

To my surprise, I discovered this wonderful Premium Collection on Forever 21’s website and I love the outerwear. I’m not much of a fan for Forever 21’s bottoms, but the outwear definitely has some pieces that I can vouch for — comfortable and cute. Regardez!

I like the cold weather because of the endless fashion on the New York City streets, but I can’t wait to be back at La Côte D’azur on the beach drinking Rosé in a cheeky bikini. 47 days until Spring. Let the countdown begin!

It’s fashion week again and as long as my favorite designer is involved, then so am I!

Notable fashion designer and television host Zac Posen will be debuting his 2017 spring and summer clothing collection at Fashion Week in New York City on Monday, September 12th, 2016. He’s best known for constructing unique and ritzy gowns for celebrities and couture-based department stores such as Bergdorf Goodman and Neiman Marcus. He is also a co-host for the Lifetime network’s ‘Project Runway’ since January 2013.

Every season, Posen’s shows remain unpredictable. For his 2016 fall and winter collection in February, he introduced his campaign “Black Models Matter” where he cast mostly  models of color to fight for more diversity in the fashion industry. The show featured supermodels Naomi Campbell and Veronica Webb wearing Posen’s gowns. Campbell and Posen closed the show together walking side by side down the runway.

In May 2016 at the New York City Metropolitan Gala, the Project Runway host designed a shimmering baby blue glow-in-the-dark gown for his long-time friend, actress Claire Danes. Reviews and photos of the design flooded both local and international media, including social media. “I like to make people dream,” Posen said when asked about the Cinderella-like design at the Met Gala. “That’s my job.”

V.I.P. tickets to his show this season sold out in the first few days after they were posted for purchase online. The tickets included V.I.P. seats, a backstage tour of the show, and a meet and greet with Zac Posen himself. Posen is also offering internships to college students who are studying and interested in public relations, sales, and fashion design. Application details and more information are available on zacposen.com.
